ABOUT LANGARA COLLEGE CONTINUING STUDIES
Langara Continuing Studies, a division of Langara College, is dedicated to lifelong learning and public service through education. Integral to being a financially self-supporting component of the public post-secondary institution, Langara Continuing Studies advances continuing education activities that are community-driven and student-focused. Our employees are experienced professionals who strive to be responsive and accountable to those who are served.
Endeavouring to be resources and contributors to community life, Langara CS personnel participate in and support significant public issues and concerns. Leading practitioners, expert in their chosen field, are drawn from the community at large to advise and to teach. Collaborative programs with community organizations further enrich the learning environment of the College.
Langara CS reflects the College mission through a variety of programs, courses and activities that are designed to improve the intellectual, cultural, social, physical and economic well being of individuals and the community.

Beginning in July, of Fall 2005 Continuing Studies Catalogue will be delivered to many addresses in the area surrounding Langara College as well as to local libraries in the Greater Vancouver area. All the courses offered in the catalogue are also listed on this website. You may request a calendar by mail by phoning 604-323-5322.
Some classes fill quickly, only receipt of payment guarantees a place in a class.
The Continuing Studies office is closed and classes postponed during the following holidays:
A minimum enrolment is required to recover the costs of the course. If that number is not reached, Continuing Studies reserves the right to cancel classes. Every attempt will be made to notify you in advance. A full refund wish will be processed automatically unless we are notified of your wish to hold the amount for a future course.
INCOME TAX RECEIPTS
Tuition fees for eligible courses exceeding $100 within a calendar year are income tax-deductible. Please retain your receipt, as a charge of $10 will be made for duplicate receipts.
GOODS AND SERVICES TAX (GST)
Courses that are designed to be taken primarily for recreational or general interest purposes are taxable. Any GST payable has been calculated and included for those courses affected.
WAIT LISTS FOR COURSES
Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, upon full receipt of tuition fees at the time of registration. If a course is full, you will be placed on a wait list. In some cases, another section of the course may be added. If a course seat becomes available, the person whose name is first on the list will be contacted.
WITHDRAWALS AND REFUNDS
Please Note: Certain programs and courses may have refund policies different from below. Please refer to the terms as described in specific programs and courses.
100% Refund Credit Alternative:
Refund Payments: Fee payments made by credit card are refunded by means of a credit to your account. All other refunds are made by cheque. Please allow three weeks for processing refunds.
Announcing a new measure, the International Learning Unit (ILU)
Langara College Continuing Studies is adopting the ILU; a new outcomes based measure for recognizing lifelong learning. It will be phased in program by program. The class-hours based measure, the Continuing Education Unit (CEU), will continue to be used for the present where 1 CEU is awarded for every 10 instructional hours.
The ILU is awarded for successfully passing an outcome based evaluation with a pass rate of 80% with 1 ILU awarded for 50 content items covered. As examples, typically 3 ILUs may be awarded for a term long course while .1 ILU could be applied to a one-hour conference session that includes a test of the learning acquired.
The Learning Unit (© LERN), or International Learning Unit- ILU (© LERN) is sponsored by the Learning Resources Network, the largest international non-profit lifelong learning organization in the world.
STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
Students in need of disability services or accommodations may be eligible for assistance. Contact the Disability Services Coordinator at 604-323-5635 for and intake interview several weeks prior to the start of your course. You will be required to provide current documentation of your disability.
LANGARA'S HARASSMENT POLICY
Langara College is committed to the principle that all members of the college community have the right to work and study in an environment free from harassment. The College does not condone and will not tolerate harassing behavior, which may undermine the dignity, self-esteem and productivity of student(s) and/or employee(s).
The College considers any form of harassment of an individual involved in College activities to be a serious violation of that individual's fundamental rights. Such conduct may be subject to a range of resolutions including mediated settlement or, in certain circumstances, disciplinary measures up to and including dismissal or expulsion.
If you are wondering if your class might be cancelled due to weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances, please call the College Switchboard at 604-323-5511 or listen to your local radio station.
In the evenings from Monday to Friday, campus security escorts groups to the parking lot. Groups leave from the security office, located beside the main cafeteria in “A” building, every half-hour from 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm. Another group leaves at midnight. If you need a security guard to walk you to your car at a different time, please call 604-253-7596 and ask for pager 2212. A security guard will meet you at the security office and escort you to the parking lot.
