Langara College 1994-2004

10 years logo

Langara College programs were first offered in 1965 at King Edward Centre as part of Vancouver City College. The current site at West 49th Avenue has housed the programs since 1970.

On April 1, 1994, Langara College was established as an independent public college. The past ten years have been a time of tremendous growth for the College, fueled by the growing demand for quality

post-secondary education in British Columbia. In the early 1990s, a Facility Master Planning exercise clearly outlined that the College was being utilized at a rate that exceeded Ministry standards. In January 1997 a new classroom and office building was opened to address the space needs on the campus.

International student enrolment has grown by more than 400 percent since 1996.

Langara College Continuing Studies, honoured for excellence in 2002 by the Learning Resources Network (LERN), an international association of lifelong learning, has also enjoyed tremendous growth and success since its first term in 1997.

Current demographic and economic data show a continued need for excellent academic and career educational programs. Langara College has updated its Master Plan this year and we have identified the ongoing facility expansion required to meet the needs of our students, both in the short and long term.
