A Time to Celebrate

Linda Holmes Portrait

As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary as an independent, publicly funded college, I am pleased to share with you several of our success stories.

The Langara College reputation for excellence in the post-secondary system has been earned as a result of the high level of success our students achieve when they leave to pursue a university degree or embark on their career. This is evidenced by the fact that students who complete two years at Langara College and transfer to a first degree at UBC consistently graduate with higher Grade Point Averages than students who completed their first two years at other colleges.

In addition, more than ninety percent of our career program graduates find employment in their chosen field within four months of graduation. We are proud that Co-operative Education in the BC College System began at Langara College, and we continue to use this highly successful learning method to augment academic study with relevant paid-work experiences to better prepare our graduates.

While Continuing Education divisions at other postsecondary institutions are downsizing or closing, Langara College continues to serve our community through development of an ever-expanding number of courses, programs and educational partnerships.

Our commitment to student success runs deep. The citizens of Vancouver, through a community newspaper survey, have named Langara College as the number one College in Vancouver for the past three years.

Langara College’s reputation for academic and service excellence is a reflection of the contributions of many people – our dedicated Board of Governors, our caring and creative employees, our program partners and advisors, our generous donors, and certainly our alumni, students and community colleagues. To all of you I give my most heartfelt thanks.

To those of you who have not experienced the Langara brand of education and service, I invite you to visit the campus to use our publicly accessible services. Please attend our Lecture Series or enjoy a live performance by our Theatre Arts students. Feel free to feed the ducks on our restored Wetland pond.

We are proud to be your educational partner and a part of your community.
